Mumbai Municipal Corporation Election 2026: Split in Maha Vikas Aghadi! Congress to contest independently

Mumbai: Maharashtra Congress in-charge Ramesh Chennithala has made a major announcement. The Congress party will contest the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections in 2026 independently. This has caused a major rift in the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance.
After a meeting in Mumbai, Chennithala told a press conference, "Corruption has increased in Mumbai, and there is a lack of development work. Therefore, we have decided to contest the election independently." He appealed to fight against the BJP and the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena, and urged true patriots and secular people to join them.
The election schedule has been announced:
Filing of nominations: December 23 to 30, 2025
Scrutiny: December 31, 2025
Withdrawal of nominations: January 2, 2026
Voting: January 15, 2026
Results: January 16, 2026
This decision has added a new dimension to the political atmosphere of Mumbai.
